Message From The Tourism Secretary
June 27, 2008
Hello my friends,
I am thrilled to share with you the news that yesterday Governor Jim Doyle announced a $250,000 tourism grant program to assist tourism destination marketing organizations invite visitors to enjoy the Wisconsin people, places and vacation possibilities they know and love.
We are deeply grateful to Governor Doyle for his support of our industry and for the Administration for the swiftness with which this grant was made available.
Entities eligible for the grants are located in counties designated as FEMA disaster areas. The one-time grants will be up to $12,500 and will be awarded by the Department of Tourism. We have posted the Tourism Recovery Grant guidelines and application for your convenience, as well as updated unified message points.
Your resilience continues to inspire us all.
Take good care,
Kelli A. Trumble

Hello my friends,
Thankfully, the weather is on our side as many of the businesses affected by last week’s flooding continue to roll up their sleeves to get back to “business as usual.” To those not yet in a position to do so, our hearts go out to you and we are here for you.
Statewide, some businesses were affected … some were not. The challenge for all is the perception that “everybody in Wisconsin is closed and everything has floated away.” While we know this is not the case, competitors from several surrounding states are capitalizing on that misperception.
I wanted to assure all of you that we are working on a post-flood marketing campaign.
To help jump start business and send a clear message that “Wisconsin is open for business,” we would like you to start thinking about a special offer for the month of July that would bring business to our state … and to those who need it most.
Within the next week we will circle back with an opportunity to participate in an online marketing offer at no cost to you. Please pay close attention to any communications that you receive through this channel over the next days and weeks.
Meanwhile, know that we are working with other state agencies, media outlets and all channels at our disposal to formulate plans and get the word out to help affected businesses across the state to get back on their feet.
Take good care,
Kelli A. Trumble

Hello my friends,
On behalf of my staff at the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, I’m reaching out to every one of our tourism partners today with a message of care, concern and optimism for the days that lie ahead.
For those of you who have been affected by the severe weather that has so wracked Wisconsin this week, our hearts go out to you. Our first concern is for your safety, so please take care. We are so grateful to know there have been no reports of injuries at this time.
We also want you to know we are doing everything in our power, and then some, to spread the word of the many, many businesses that were spared from the effects of the weather. We are letting our loyal visitors across the country know that, for the vast majority of our state, we are ready to welcome them.
Please contact us at tourinfo@travelwisconsin.com if we may be of specific assistance. I’m a firm believer that the good you do will always come back to you, and our tourism industry is filled with good people who will surely be wrapped in the arms of compassion in the weeks ahead.
Take good care,
Kelli A. Trumble

Pride Campaign
It is commonly thought, "If you want the job done right, give it to someone from Wisconsin." It is this very passion and ingenuity that best exemplifies the heart and soul of Wisconsinites - past and present. The pride we share is second to none. Sprinkle in majestic landscapes and wild notions of being or doing whatever we set our minds to, and the true heart and soul of Wisconsin reveals itself. The following :30 TV and :60 radio commercials are the first step in celebrating this unique way of life of ours - one where originality rules.
